Harry Theodor Nyquist was a Swedish-American physicist and electronic engineer. He was born on February 7, 1889, and passed away on April 4, 1976. Nyquist made important contributions to communication theory, which helped shape how we send and receive information today.

Personal life
Harry Nyquist was born in a small village called Nilsby, in Sweden. His parents were Lars Jonsson Nyqvist and Catarina Eriksdotter, and they had eight children together. In 1907, Harry moved to the United States.
Education
Harry Nyquist began his studies at the University of North Dakota in 1912. He earned a B.S. and an M.S. in electrical engineering in 1914 and 1915. Later, he completed a Ph.D. in physics at Yale University in 1917.
Career
Harry Nyquist worked at AT&T from 1917 to 1934. When AT&T's research department became Bell Telephone Laboratories in 1934, he continued working there until he retired in 1954.
Nyquist received many awards for his important work. In 1960, he got the IRE Medal of Honor for his studies on heat-related noise, sending information, and systems that help control machines. Later that year, he was given the Stuart Ballantine Medal from the Franklin Institute for his ideas and inventions in communication systems over many years. In 1969, he received the National Academy of Engineering's Founder's Medal for his big contributions to engineering. In 1975, he and Hendrik Bode shared the Rufus Oldenburger Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
After retiring, Nyquist lived in Pharr, Texas. He passed away in Harlingen, Texas on April 4, 1976.
Technical contributions
Harry Nyquist worked at Bell Laboratories and made many important discoveries. He studied things like heat noise in wires, how to make machines that can copy images, and how to send information better. He also worked with Herbert E. Ives to create the first machines that could send pictures over distance in 1924.
Nyquist also wrote a very important paper in 1932 about how to make sure machines that control other machines stay stable. His ideas helped later scientists like Claude Shannon develop the science of how information can be sent and stored. He discovered that the speed at which information can be sent depends on the range of frequencies used, which helped create better ways to send telegraph messages and other signals.
