SNY, which stands for SportsNet New York, is an American television channel that shows sports. It is owned by a group of companies that work together, including Sterling Equities, Charter Communications, and Comcast.
The main focus of SNY is to broadcast games and shows about the New York Mets baseball team. It also shows some games and news about the New York Jets football team, as well as college sports.
SNY's offices and studios are located at 4 World Trade Center in New York City. People can watch SNY on cable and fiber optic TV services in the New York area and the state of New York. It is also available across the whole country on satellite TV through DirecTV.
History
SportsNet New York was created so the New York Mets could have more control over their television broadcasts. Before this, from 1998 to 2002, another company called Cablevision had exclusive rights to show local sports games in New York City, which caused some problems for fans.
In 2002, a group called YankeeNets started the YES Network to show games for the New York Yankees and New Jersey Nets. The Mets stayed with Cablevision until 2005 when their contract ended. On March 16, 2006, the New York Mets started SportsNet New York with help from Comcast and Time Warner Cable.
By 2011, the Mets earned $68 million from SNY for showing their games. By 2013, experts estimated that $1.2 billion of the Mets' value came from SNY. SNY was first located in the Time-Life Building at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan until moving to 4 World Trade Center in March 2017. In 2025, SNY planned to launch a streaming service through MLB.com and the MLB app.
Sports coverage
SNY is the main local broadcaster for the New York Mets. It shows at least 120 Mets games each season that are not on national TV or streaming services like Apple TV+ or Roku Channel. SNY also creates games for WPIX, a local TV station, to share with other stations near the Mets' area.
In 2005, the New York Jets agreed to let SNY show over 250 hours of Jets-related shows each year. This includes regular season and off-season content with players, coaches, and team leaders.
SNY also shows sports from many colleges. It broadcasts games from the University of Connecticut, Fordham University, Columbia University, Stony Brook University, and others. The network also features college basketball games from the Northeast Conference and the Connecticut Ice college hockey tournament.

Availability
When SNY started, it faced challenges getting onto Cablevision because the New York Mets had moved their games from Cablevisionβs channels, MSG Network and FSN New York (now MSG Sportsnet). A judge decided the Mets had properly ended their deal with Cablevision by paying a large fee.
Over time, SNY became available on different services. Comcast started carrying it in Hartford in March 2008, and Cox Communications added it in July 2008. In August 2011, a special Connecticut version called SNY-CT launched. Today, SNY can also be found in Palm Beach County, Florida and nationwide through Verizon Fios. However, because of rules from Major League Baseball, Mets games arenβt shown in some areas, though other shows are.
Since 2017, SNY has allowed fans to watch Mets games online through its website and the NBC Sports app. In 2022, SNY launched its own app for streaming. In February 2025, SNY and MLB announced that Mets games would also be available on the MLB app.
