Sydney Theatre Company (STC) is a famous theatre company in Australia. It is based in Sydney, New South Wales, and brings exciting plays and performances to life for audiences to enjoy.
STC mainly performs at the Wharf Theatre at Dawes Point in the historic Rocks area of Sydney. They also perform at the Roslyn Packer Theatre, which used to be called the Sydney Theatre, and at the Drama Theatre inside the famous Sydney Opera House. These special venues help make each show a memorable experience for everyone who attends.
History
The Sydney Theatre Company started in December 1978 after the Old Tote Theatre Company closed. Elizabeth Butcher helped set up the new company, and it began performing at the Sydney Opera House. In 1979, Richard Wherrett became the artistic director.
For many years, the company used different places around Sydney for their shows. But in 1983, they got permission to turn an old wharf into their new home. The Wharf Theatre opened in 1985, and many famous Australian actors began their careers there. Over time, the Wharf Theatre has become an important place for theatre in Sydney.

Greening the Wharf
The Sydney Theatre Company works at a special old place near Sydney Harbour. Led by Blanchett and Upton, they started a big project called Greening the Wharf. They put in solar energy, collect rainwater, use less energy, and manage waste better. This project also helps workers, makes shows in a friendly way, and teaches the community. The project won two Green Globe Awards.

Helpmann Awards
The Helpmann Awards celebrate live entertainment and performing arts in Australia. They have been given out by Live Performance Australia since 2001. In 2020 and 2021, the awards were not held because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
