The arts are a wide range of human activities that involve creative expression, storytelling, and cultural participation. History and classifications

In Ancient Greece, people created art and crafts using a word called techne. Greek artists showed animals in new ways and learned to draw muscles, beauty, and correct shapes. Ancient Roman artists painted gods to look like perfect humans, giving them special things like Zeus's lightning bolt. During the Middle Ages, art in Byzantine and Gothic art focused on Christian ideas because the church and government were closely linked. Asian art, like in India, Tibet, and Japan, often used patterns and colors outlined clearly, similar to modern cartoons. In many parts of the world, artistic expression through language can also be oral and include genres such as epic, legend, myth, ballad, other forms of oral poetry, and folktales. Comics, which mix drawings or other visual arts with storytelling, are sometimes called the "ninth art" in Francophone scholarship.

Performing arts

Performing arts include dance, music, theatre, opera, mime, and other forms where people perform in front of an audience. Unlike art that you can see or read quietly, performing arts need live action to be enjoyed. These arts happen over time, and can be planned with scripts or made up on the spot. People who perform include actors, magicians, comedians, dancers, musicians, and singers. They often use special clothes and makeup to help tell their stories.

Dance
