Bedding
Bedding is the cozy stuff we put on our beds to keep us comfortable while we sleep. It helps us stay warm and makes our beds look nice. Most bedding comes in sets that we wash often to stay fresh and clean.
Bedding usually includes a bed sheet that goes over the mattress, a top sheet, and something warm like a blanket, a quilt, or a duvet. Sometimes we use a duvet cover instead of a top sheet. There are also pillows with pillowcases to rest our heads.
In Australia and New Zealand, people sometimes call bedding “manchester.” This name comes from Manchester, a place famous for making cotton cloth a long time ago.
Bedding comes in many materials. Sheets are often made from cotton or mixes of cotton and polyester. Duvets and comforters can be filled with goose or duck down or other feathers. There are also alternatives made from natural or synthetic materials for people who have allergies.
Long ago, people used simple bedding made from plants. One of the oldest examples was found in Israel and is 23,000 years old. These early beddings were made from stems and leaves placed on the floor.
Today, bedding comes in different sizes to fit different beds. It can be plain or very fancy, with pretty designs and soft materials. Whether you live in a cold place or a warm place, there is bedding to keep you cozy all night long.
