What is Concrete?
Concrete is a very strong building material that people use all around the world. It is made by mixing special powder called Portland cement with water and pieces of rock or sand. When these ingredients are mixed together, they become a thick liquid that can be poured into any shape. After a little while, the mixture hardens and turns into a solid, stone-like material.
Why Do We Use Concrete?
Concrete is used for many things because it is very strong and lasts a long time. It helps build houses, schools, bridges, and even big buildings like the Pantheon in Rome, Italy. People love concrete because it can be shaped into many forms and stays strong for many years.
How Does Concrete Work?
When you mix Portland cement with water and rocks or sand, something special happens. The cement and water react together and harden. This makes the concrete strong and able to hold up heavy weights. Sometimes, people add steel bars called rebar inside the concrete to make it even stronger. This helps buildings stay up even during strong winds or earthquakes.
