Egyptian Pyramids
The Egyptian pyramids are amazing old buildings in Egypt. Most of them were built as homes for special leaders called pharaohs and their families a long time ago, during the Old and Middle Kingdom times. There are at least 138 pyramids in Egypt, and about 80 pyramids in what is now Sudan.
The most famous pyramids are at Giza, near Cairo. Some of these pyramids are among the biggest buildings ever made. The Pyramid of Khufu is the largest Egyptian pyramid and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World that is still standing today.
People built the pyramids close to the Nile River. The river helped carry big stones and materials to the building site. This shows how important the river was for building these huge structures.
The word for pyramid in ancient Egyptian is mr. We are not sure what this word means exactly. But we do know that pyramids were very special buildings. They were placed on the west side of the Nile River, which was important in ancient stories.
Today, many pyramids are in poor condition or hidden by sand. Scientists are still working to find and study more pyramids that might be hidden. The pyramids remind us of the clever skills and hard work of people living thousands of years ago.
