Mary Anning

Mary Anning was a wonderful explorer who loved finding old bones called fossils. She lived in Lyme Regis, a pretty seaside town in Dorset, England. The cliffs near her home were full of secrets from long ago, hidden inside rocks.

Mary started looking for fossils when she was very young. Her father showed her how to spot them, and she became very good at finding them. She discovered many amazing things, like the first complete skeleton of a sea reptile called an ichthyosaur. She also found fossils of another sea creature named a plesiosaur, and even a flying reptile called a pterosaur.

Even though it was hard for women to be scientists back then, many clever people respected Mary’s work. Her discoveries helped everyone learn about life from long, long ago. Today, Mary Anning is remembered as a brave and smart explorer who taught us about Earth’s ancient history.

Her story has inspired many books, songs, and even a statue in her hometown. People all over the world know about her and her amazing finds.
