The Mediterranean Sea
The Mediterranean Sea is a big body of water between Europe, Asia, and Africa. It is almost all surrounded by land! It connects to the Atlantic Ocean through the Strait of Gibraltar and to the Black Sea through the Bosporus. It also links to the Red Sea through the Suez Canal.
Many countries have beautiful coastlines along the Mediterranean. These include Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Egypt. The sea has many islands too, like Sicily and Sardinia.
The Mediterranean has been very important for a long time. Ancient civilizations like those in Greece and Rome grew up around it. The sea helped people trade and share ideas. Many ships still travel through these waters today.
The sea has a mild climate with warm summers and cooler, wetter winters. It is home to many interesting plants and animals. Some special sea creatures, like the Mediterranean monk seal, live only in this area.
The Mediterranean faces some challenges today. Pollution from cities and ships can harm the water and sea life. Climate change is also making the sea warmer, which affects the plants and animals that live there. People are working hard to protect this beautiful sea and its many homes for wildlife.
