Peninsular Malaysia

Peninsular Malaysia, also called West Malaysia, is the southern part of the Malay Peninsula in Mainland Southeast Asia. It is one big piece of land that makes up almost 40% of all of Malaysia. The other piece is on the island of Borneo, called East Malaysia.

This land has many forests and mountains in the middle, but most people live and work near the western coast. Big cities like Kuala Lumpur are there.

Peninsular Malaysia has 11 states and two special areas called federal territories. The states are Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Penang, Perak, Perlis, Selangor, and Terengganu. The federal territories are Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

Peninsular Malaysia is next to Thailand to the north and Singapore to the south. Across the water to the west is Sumatra, and to the east is the South China Sea with the Natuna Islands, part of Indonesia.
