People know UW for its work in medicine, engineering, and science. It is part of a special group called the Association of American Universities. The school’s sports teams are called the Huskies and play in the Big Ten Conference.
The main campus has many important buildings, like libraries and museums. Red Square is a busy spot with the Suzzallo Library and a statue of George Washington. The Burke Museum has interesting things from nature and culture, including a very old Tyrannosaurus rex skull.
UW has over 50,000 students from many places. There are many student groups for different interests, like studying, cultures, nature, and sports. The school helps students find homes and offers support for those who need it.
The school’s mascot is Harry the Husky, an Alaskan Malamute dog. Fans love the football and basketball teams, and the rowing team has won many awards. The school colors are purple and gold.
UW works hard to care for the environment. It uses clean energy and has plans to stop using natural gas by 2035. The school wants to use more solar power and improve its heating and cooling systems.
