Welcome to Virginia!

Virginia is a beautiful state in the southeastern part of the United States. It is known as the "Old Dominion" and is one of the original 13 colonies. Virginia is bordered by Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina. The capital city is Richmond, and the largest city is Virginia Beach.

Nature and Geography

Virginia has many different landscapes. You can find sandy beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, forests covering the rolling hills, and the beautiful Appalachian Mountains in the west. The Chesapeake Bay is a large body of water that is very important for fishing and boating. The Shenandoah Valley is famous for its farmlands and lovely views.

History

People have lived in Virginia for thousands of years. Long ago, many Native American tribes, like the Powhatan, called this place home. In 1607, English explorers built Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in America. Virginia played a big role in American history, especially during the American Revolution and the Civil War. Many important leaders, including several U.S. presidents, came from Virginia.
