A magnetic core is a piece of magnetic material used to control and direct magnetic fields in many useful devices. These devices include electromagnets, transformers, electric motors, generators, inductors, loudspeakers, and recording heads. The core is typically made from special metals like iron or compounds called ferrites that can easily hold a magnetic field.
