Classical Athens

Classical Athens was the main city of the city-state of Athens in ancient Greece from 480 to 323 BC. It was located in Attica. This city is very special because it was where many great ideas about how people should live began.

Athenians were very clever and loved learning. They started something called Athenian democracy, where people had a say in how their city was run. This was a new way to govern and many places still learn about it today.

Athens became a wonderful place for the arts and learning. Famous thinkers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle lived and taught there. They asked big questions and helped people think in new ways. The city had special schools like Plato's Academy and Aristotle's Lyceum.

Because of these great ideas and beautiful buildings, Athens is often called the cradle of Western civilization. Its influence spread to many parts of Europe and still affects how we think and live today.
