Welcome to Jordan!

Jordan is a beautiful country in a place called the Southern Levant in West Asia. It is surrounded by friends like Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and both Israel and Palestine. The Jordan River flows through the west, and the very low Dead Sea is on the border too. Jordan also has a tiny part by the Red Sea where you can enjoy sunny beaches.

The capital city is Amman, which is busy and full of history. People have lived in Jordan for a very long time, since the Paleolithic period. Ancient kingdoms like Ammon, Moab, and Edom were here, and later the Nabataeans built the amazing city of Petra.

Jordan is a semi-arid country, meaning it is dry with some rain. It has deserts, hills, and even snowy places in the winter. The weather can get very hot in the summer, sometimes above 40 °C (104 °F)! Jordan is home to many plants and animals, like pine trees, wild olives, and the Nubian ibex.

Jordan is ruled by a king, and people help choose leaders in elections. The king works with a government to make decisions. Jordan is friendly with many countries and is part of groups like the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The country is known for its kind people and beautiful places.

Tourism is very important in Jordan. Famous spots like Petra and Jerash attract visitors from all over the world. The Dead Sea is a special place where people go to float in its salty water. Jordan also has valleys for hiking and places important for religion, like where Jesus was baptized.

Jordan’s culture is rich with music, art, and delicious food. Traditional music and dancing are enjoyed at festivals. Jordanian food includes hummus, made from chickpeas, and mansaf, the national dish made with rice, meat, and yogurt. Sports are popular too, especially taekwondo, and football is loved by many.

Jordan faces challenges, like helping many people who have come from other countries, but it remains a place of welcome and beauty. The country continues to grow and improve, offering many wonderful experiences for everyone to enjoy.
