Welcome to Manhattan!

Manhattan is a very busy and exciting part of New York City. It is the smallest but most crowded area of the city. Manhattan is like a small island in the big city, close to the southern tip of New York State. It is part of the Northeast megalopolis, a place where many big cities are close together.

Long ago, the Lenape people lived in this area. Later, Dutch settlers came and built a trading post in 1624, calling it New Amsterdam. In 1664, it became part of England and was renamed New York. Today, Manhattan is famous for many things, like important business places such as Wall Street and the New York Stock Exchange. You can also find amazing spots like Times Square, big parks such as Central Park, and important buildings like the Empire State Building.

Manhattan has many different neighborhoods, like Lower Manhattan, Midtown, and Upper Manhattan. It is full of famous places that many people visit, like museums, universities, and tall buildings. One famous area is Harlem, which was important for African American culture. Another is Greenwich Village, known for its history of rights for everyone.

Manhattan is very important for business, culture, and government. It has many bridges, tunnels, and tall buildings, making it a busy and exciting place to live and visit. Whether you are interested in seeing famous landmarks, enjoying a show on Broadway, or just walking through its many neighborhoods, Manhattan has something for everyone.
