Correction, keeping only linked text from the source: Pablo Picasso was a painter and sculptor from Spain. He lived most of his grown-up life in France. He is one of the most important artists of the 20th-century art world.

Growing Up

Pablo was born in 1881 in the city of Málaga, in southern Spain. His father, José Ruiz y Blasco, was a painter and an art teacher. When Pablo was seven, his father began teaching him to paint and draw.

The family later moved to Barcelona, a city that Pablo came to love as his true home. As a young man, he visited the Prado museum in Madrid. He admired the paintings of El Greco.

His Famous Art

Picasso helped start a style called Cubism. In this style, objects are broken into shapes. He also helped invent collage, which is when paper pieces are glued onto a picture.

One of his famous paintings is Les Demoiselles d'Avignon. His early paintings were in shades of blue, and later he used warm pinks and oranges. He worked with Georges Braque to develop Cubism.

Remembered Today

Picasso's art is still loved all over the world. In 1971, he became the first living artist to have a special show in the Grand Gallery of the Louvre in Paris. It was held for his 90th birthday.

You can see his early works at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona. In his birthplace of Málaga, the Museo Picasso Málaga opened in 2003. Picasso passed away in 1973, but his art lives on for everyone to enjoy.
