American Innovation dollars

American Innovation dollars are special coins made by the United States Mint. They began in 2018 and will continue until 2032. Each coin shows an important invention, an inventor, or a group of inventors from a different state or territory. On the front of each coin, you will see the Statue of Liberty, also called Liberty Enlightening the World. These coins honor the bright ideas and creative people who help make America a place of discovery and progress.

History

The American Innovation $1 Coin Program was approved by the United States Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives in June 2018. President Donald Trump signed it into law on July 18, 2018. The program started on December 14, 2018, with a special coin to honor George Washington.

Each year, four new coins are released to celebrate great ideas and the people who created them. These coins come from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories: Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Mariana Islands. All these coins show the Statue of Liberty on one side and have the words "In God We Trust" and "$1".

Coin designs

These special coins show ideas and people who helped make new discoveries or create important changes in each state or territory of the United States. The coins are made in two different styles: one that looks normal and one that shines very brightly.

In 2019, a small extra design was added to the front of the coins below the words "In God We Trust".
